Gerard lives with his family in the Sacramento area in California. Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Gerard and his wife, Margreet, immigrated to the United States in 1995. Gerard and Margreet are raising their three American-born teenage daughters, who are enjoying a rich school and social life in their California home town.
Gerard’s desire to move to the United States originated in his teenage years, when he had the good fortune of being an exchange student at QCSH in Quakertown, Pa. Gerard enjoyed the American way of life and the rich choices in school subjects and organized extracurricular activities. He especially enjoyed the activities of the music department and actively participated in chorus, jazz band and the spring musical. In addition, he obtained a press pass as a photographer for most of the school’s athletic events.
Education and Professional Life
After obtaining a degree in software engineering from the Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague, the Netherlands, Gerard developed a keen interest in how business operations can be improved by making smarter use of their business software. At Siemens Nederland, N.V., he was given the opportunity to become part of the SAP team, which was responsible for customizing, integrating and deploying the highly integrated SAP software to Siemens employees. Gerard’s education and experience at Siemens gave him a solid foundation for his career.
Currently, Gerard is focused in his professional life on managing large business transformation projects where SAP software is a key enabler. As a leader in the SAP practice of Deloitte Consulting, LLP, Gerard has had the opportunity to work with many technology and life sciences companies, assisting them to run their business better using SAP. In addition to complex projects management, Gerard has developed specific skills in the areas of master data management (MDM) and data governance, data migration and transformation and strategic implementation planning.
Hobbies and Interests
Gerard is a proud pilot/owner of Pacific Gold Aviation Association, Inc. (PGAA), a fractional airplane ownership organization, where Gerard acts as marketing director, web master (pgaafly.com) and secretary, in addition to enjoying flying privileges in the organization’s fleet of three Piper aircraft. Gerard owns a private pilot certificate for single engine – land airplanes, with an instrument rating and has accumulated 600+ hours of flying time over the past 15 years. He is also a command pilot for Angel Flight West and has the personal goal to fly at least four charity missions each year.
In his remaining spare time, Gerard enjoys digital photography, running, playing the piano and guitar and tinkering with gadgets and websites. More than anything, he enjoys almost any activity or chore that he can do it together his spouse and/or daughters.
